Postcards from Poland: Garden

Here are some images of my parents' garden. I love this big green space full of trees, flowers and some veggies too. This quiet space and perfect greenery is probably the thing that I miss the most, living in a big city. I dream that one day we have similar garden where we can rest, sit in the shade of an old plum tree and read, let our children walk barefeet on the grass... Until then, these photos must do. And there are more coming soon :)

Corner View #9

This week theme is “out of your back door or window” (thank you Joyce).

Now, I don’t really have anything interesting to show. We are these unlucky people who live in the lower part of Genoa which means that we are surrounded by other buildings, some of them built on upper level- our view is rather overwhelming. Depressing, when it rains. I can’t get used to it- I’ve lived in many places and I always had views overlooking back or front gardens. I miss it a lot. I miss greenery. I miss some space.

But, somehow, it this unluckiness there is a spark of something good: we have our own “garden”. Our flat is on the second floor and it has an access to some space outside. This place is something between a terrace and a backyard but we do like to call it our little garden. It’s not really pretty but we do try to make it a nicer place. We have some flower-beds and pots with herbs and since we are interested in urban gardening, we try to grow some vegetables (we have our own lettuce, radishes and tomatoes).

In these photos I’m sharing with you my little flower corner. The dahlias are already blossoming and the gladiolus is getting ready as well. In the evenings, when everything is done and my little girl is sleeping sound and safe, I like to go out and sit on the bench. I enjoy the cool air. I smell the lavender. I let myself to fall into my thoughts and into the dusk.

And if I’m lucky enough, I may see fireflies, glowing in the dark.

Look at this little guy- isn't he beautiful? We saw him few days ago on the wall in our little garden*. I'd never seen a gecko before. I grabbed my camera and took few photos of him- it was late in the evening so I had to use the flash. I thought that would scare him away but no. He didn't move, he remained still. In the morning he was gone.

(* that's what we like to call this little terrace ouside our flat; but it's a topic for another post.)
