Corner View: Fire.

From all the elements, fire is the one that I fear the most. I fear its power. It can so easily get out of our control and it is so difficult, sometimes impossible, to put it out. When I was a child, I witnessed a big fire in which our neighbour's house got completely destroyed. We stood in open windows of our apartment, terrified. I still remember the heat we felt on our faces.

  4. That's such a scary experience. Our neighbor's barn burned down when I was 5. It wasn't so close that I felt the heat, I do remember the firetrucks. And the boy, a little older than me, who had been playing with matches. I wondered how much trouble he got in. I never played with matches. Who knows how we end up being protected from the things that scare us?

  5. So true. Fire can be both so beautiful and destructive. Maybe this is why everyone is so fascinated by looking into flames.

  6. We once had to leave our house in the middle of the night because the neighbors house burnt down.

  7. When I was a child, a good friend of mine had a house fire once. From a tiny spark the whole house went up in flames. She stayed with us for a few days and I gave her some of my toys as she had lost all hers in the fire.

  10. Horrible. I don't know what it must feel like to lose your home like that. In this country houses are mainly built of bricks and stone, and we don't use many carpets, so fires aren't very common at all. Sorry to bring back scary memory from the past with this theme.
