This week theme is “out of your back door or window” (thank you Joyce).
Now, I don’t really have anything interesting to show. We are these unlucky people who live in the lower part of Genoa which means that we are surrounded by other buildings, some of them built on upper level- our view is rather overwhelming. Depressing, when it rains. I can’t get used to it- I’ve lived in many places and I always had views overlooking back or front gardens. I miss it a lot. I miss greenery. I miss some space.
But, somehow, it this unluckiness there is a spark of something good: we have our own “garden”. Our flat is on the second floor and it has an access to some space outside. This place is something between a terrace and a backyard but we do like to call it our little garden. It’s not really pretty but we do try to make it a nicer place. We have some flower-beds and pots with herbs and since we are interested in urban gardening, we try to grow some vegetables (we have our own lettuce, radishes and tomatoes).
In these photos I’m sharing with you my little flower corner. The dahlias are already blossoming and the gladiolus is getting ready as well. In the evenings, when everything is done and my little girl is sleeping sound and safe, I like to go out and sit on the bench. I enjoy the cool air. I smell the lavender. I let myself to fall into my thoughts and into the dusk.
And if I’m lucky enough, I may see fireflies, glowing in the dark.

An absolutely beautiful post...we also have a little porch with herbs, lettuces, and citrus trees in pots. I love it and find such peace when sitting amongst my little 'garden'. Yours is lovely -enjoy the fireflies!
ReplyDeleteI can understand needing a little space, but I think your little garden is delightful and the buildings around you seem pretty too. I love those purple flowers!
ReplyDeleteOh my friend I love your little corner! The potted flowers add a splash of color. I like the black iron piece too. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder so what I can see of the buildings in the background they look pretty. I like the hint of turquoise on the buildings. Thank you so much for sharing! Have a wonderful time with your family. xoxo
ReplyDeleteit looks lovely. . . and, hey, at least there won't be any deer in your lettuces! have a great visit!
ReplyDeleteBack or front yards are not a concept in urban Italy: you're lucky to have your little space, and I hope it'll make your home feel more open once in full bloom! Enjoy your parents visit!
ReplyDeletenothing to show...? this is such a beautiful little spot you have! love the photos, love your words :)
ReplyDeletei wish you a lovely time with your parents ~ trinsch
you have a lovely little garden ...
ReplyDeleteLovely !!!
ReplyDeletei think your garden is lovely. and your evening cup of tea sounds heavenly. have a great visit! besos!
ReplyDeletep.s. there are no fireflies in spain...
ReplyDeleteThank you all for nice comments.
ReplyDeleteCaitlin and Joyce: yes, the buildings in the background are not that bad. They're in front of our building. What is really horrible is the back- we see wall from our sitting-room window :(
Dana: yes, luckily we don't have deer eating our lettuce (I'm so sorry about Francesca's patch!) but we do have slugs- they didn't give a chance to some of my flowers.
Francesca: oh, yes, we do feel lucky having this space outside. I'm sure some of the people from our building would love to swap with us :)
Jane: no fireflies in Spain..? Oh, they are so pretty and they remind me of Poland as well..
Kasia, whenever you feel depressed about your living space, go over to my site to look at what I see from my back window. I wish I had a little courtyard for myself. It is not possible in our beautiful Prague. When your pictures popped out, I thought it was going to be a content post, judging just from pictures.
ReplyDeleteHello Magda!
ReplyDeleteI've just been to your corner and I still think that this new building is not that bad. You still can see the sky... I see a wall, I mean: a WALL that goes up and there is another building there as well, so no chance to see the sky from my window. This is depressing *sigh*
Have a sunny day,
K.
hope you have a great time with your family....
ReplyDeleteand I have so many flowers here ..that I miss houses...more houses
Nice flowers!
ReplyDeleteWe're waiting for summer.
Love, from the rainy Netherlands, Daan
The color of your building is fantastic. Very light and southern european! And i love that huge "flower pot" you have, I suppose its a part of the wall.
ReplyDeletei think you've done a marvelous job of transforming your terrace into a little private space of greenery and flowers. it looks perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteI do think your little terrace is beautiful! Your flower pots are so pretty - those tall purple blooms are majestic. I can just imagine you sitting outside on a warm night and enjoying the lavender.
ReplyDeletedear kasja, i like this post very much. your terrace is a wonderful tiny garden paradise. and i can immagine your evening moments, outside. time to breath, time for you. your pictures looks really italian ;-) i lived many years ago near cuneo and some months also near gioia tauro in calabria. many summer memories. wish you a wonderful day*
ReplyDeletewhata beautiful little garden. it looks so peaceful. not depressing at all.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love those flowers. And I think fireflies are just divine. We don't really have them in Utah and I so wish we did!
ReplyDeleteI like how you've creatively transformed a space into a place that makes you happy, and I think it's terrific...the big picture is YOU LIVE IN ITALY! Who needs a backyard... :)
ReplyDeleteI think you've done a very nice job brightening up your little space and making it look like a garden.
ReplyDeletewhat about basil for your pesto? yumm!!! you've inspired me to get planting! thanks!
ReplyDeleteps - espresso, pesto, poet - i think we have a lot in common!
My favorite part of your view is the clothes hanging across the way. You know you are in Italy when you can see that! Your flowers are beautiful and I think you have done an amazing job making a little paradise out of the small space you have =) Have fun with your parents! xo A and A

ReplyDeleteLovely shots. I just joined CV this week. So glad to see your corner. I also left a question on your 4/11/09 post about that adorable sweater.
ReplyDeletehonestly, i think european (italian especially) architecture is beautiful, no matter how shabby the locals might think it is. i am sure your shots of buildings would be lovely.
